Discussion, finding in relation to testing of SEO mods with SGP
by Mike » Thu May 06, 2010 7:53 pm
Testing Handymans SEO mod with a clean copy of phpBB3 & SGP 2.0.2The only version I could find require quite a few updates as I believe it was intended for phpBB 3.0.0... Nevertheless I install it and proceeded with testing... First findings:I installed manually as I wanted to see the code as I went along... Quite a few of the searches could not be found as the phpBB core has changes since 3.0.0. Most finds were easy to work out, although I found myself guessing as some. There's a good chance that some of 'replace' code also require updating... Concerns:There are some concerns the mod could generate duplicate link for search engines and this could cause issues as they don't like it!. They could remove or blacklist your site, if they believe this is deliberate... Bugs Found:- Index and portal link bugs... (the links to index and portal do not work).
- ...
The fixes:- Index and portal link bugs.
You need to change Link to file for both... Change to: ./index.php and ./portal.php (i.e. add ./ in front of each). This is not a portal bug, hopefully it will be fixed in the next SEO revision... - ...

In SEO Handymans SEO mod is the best for all sites. I also have problem when I install this phpBB3 & SGP 2.0.2. The links to index and portal do not work.
Removed. No commercial linkspam please.

Strange how you are posting a problem with the answer two posts up and another thread posting there are a few mods for seo for phpbb when that was posted a few messages above that post and you are advertising link building for forums in your signature. Hmmmmmm should we say Spammer? Please provide a link to you site so we can help you with your problem.

I've Just removed and banned a few of em... i nearly did this one too, buts hes not in the forum spamlist database yet, so he's escaped the banhammer so far.... I would fix the commercial links in sigs, but i don't have them sort of powers...mwahahaha ....
But it raises the question, how comes the site is using the default capcha? Maybe Mike should set up the Google re-capcha plug-in instead? I use it on mine, and its been the most successful yet.
Also, i did try the 'drag the item into the box' capcha a while back, and i got 4 fake registrations in the first 24 hours, so i soon got rid of that one. not very effective at all, which was odd considering its design.
Dropbox, 2gigs of free (like air) storage. Synchronized to a local folder. Use my referral, pretty please!

Real busy fixing coding standards (must use {}... must use {}).... as a result of first report re getting mod passed by mod validation over at phpBB... Mitch, if you have access can you make sure Rob and CaNNon get the correct access so you guys can keep an eye on this... I was almost going to ban, but removed the sig... everyone deserves a second chance... sometimes...
